Lecture Notes in Engineering

Lecture Notes in Engineering

Autor: Kumbakonam Rajagopal

Número de Páginas: 252

These lecture notes deal with the behavior of elastic bodies subject to small displacement gradients, namely their linearized elastic response. The framework for describing the nonlinear response of elastic bodies is first put into place and then the linearization is carried out to delineate the status of the linearized theory of elasticity. Easy reading for upper-division and first-year engineering students is provided by a balanced combination of mathematical rigor and physical understanding. This lecture note grew out of a course that the author regularly teaches to undergraduate mechanical engineering students.

Leadership in Interprofessional Health Education and Practice

Leadership in Interprofessional Health Education and Practice

Autor: Charlotte Brasic Royeen , Gail M. Jensen , Robin Ann Harvan

Número de Páginas: 512

The changing landscape of health care continues to grow more diverse. As young health professionals move into clinical practice and face challenging health demands and increasing health care costs, they must be prepared to work in interprofessional teams despite a lack of experience in team-based skills. Interprofessional Healthcare: Education and Practice for Rural and Underserved Populations represents a collective response to this problem from educators, clinicians, and community health leaders to create a resource for interprofessional education and practice. Divided into five sections, this book includes the necessary information to encourage dialogue, debate, and action in interprofessional education needed to meet the health care needs for the present and the future.

Central Nervous System Diseases and Inflammation

Central Nervous System Diseases and Inflammation

Autor: Thomas E. Lane , Monica Carson , Conni Bergmann , Tony Wyss-coray

Número de Páginas: 321

Up until approximately 20 years ago, the idea that the central nervous system (CNS) and components of the immune system were dynamically interactive was considered impossible (or at least highly unlikely) as the CNS was judged an immunosuppressive environment based upon experimental evidence highlighting the survival of tissue grafts within the brain. Additional evidence supporting this viewpoint included (i) the presence of the blood–brain barrier (BBB) which p- vides a physical and physiological obstruction that is difficult for cells and mac- molecules to cross, (ii) the relative absence of MHC class I and II expression on CNS cells like astrocytes and neurons, and (iii) lack of abundant antigen presenting cells (APC) which are required for the generation of an adaptive immune response. However, in spite of these obstacles, it is now well-accepted that the CNS is r- tinely subject to immune surveillance under both normal as well as diseased con- tions. Indeed, activated cells of the immune system such as T and B lymphocytes and monocyte/macrophages readily infiltrate and accumulate within the CNS f- lowing microbial infection, injury, or upon development of autoimmune...

The Routledge Handbook of Russian International Relations Studies

The Routledge Handbook of Russian International Relations Studies

Autor: Maria Lagutina , Natalia Tsvetkova , Alexander Sergunin

Número de Páginas: 462

This handbook examines the study of international relations (IR) in Russia, giving a comprehensive analysis of historical, theoretic-conceptual, geographical, and institutional aspects. It identifies the place and role of Russia in global IR and discusses the factors that facilitate or impede the development of Russian IR studies. The contributors represent diverse Russian regions and IR schools and offer an overview of different intellectual traditions and key IR paradigms in the post-Soviet era. Filling the vacuum in international understanding of the Russian perspective on pivotal international issues, they demonstrate the continuity and change in Russia’s international policy course over the past three decades and explain how different foreign policy schools and concepts have affected Russian foreign policy making and the decision-making process. Providing a unique contribution to the discussion on non-Western IR theory, this handbook will appeal to scholars and students of international relations, Russian studies, world politics, and international studies.
