The Age of the Catholic Monarchs, 1474-1516

Autor: A. D. Deyermond , Ian Richard Macpherson

Número de Páginas: 215

Keith Whinnom, Professor of Spanish and Deputy Vice-Chancellor in the University of Exeter, died on March 6, 1986. He was one of the leading hispanists of his generation, and a world authority on the literature of the reign of the Catholic Monarchs (and, in a quite different area, on pidgin and creole languages). The contributors to this memorial volume are all specialists in the literature of Keith Whinnom’s chosen period, and all had close links with him, through personal friendship, research collaboration, and correspondence. They include his most admired teacher, two young scholars whom he helped at the outset of their careers, and representatives of the academic generations in between; they come from Britain, Spain, the United States, Argentina and France. Most of the articles deal with the favorite Whinnom subjects of cancionero poetry, sentimental romance, and Celestina, and there are others on historiography, humanistic prose, chivalric romance, sermons, drama, and the interaction of history and literature. A bibliography of Keith Whinnom’s scholarly writings is included.

Well of Sins

Well of Sins

Autor: Richard King , Bonnie King

Número de Páginas: 281

All civilizations have a story or myth of an Armageddon, a great war where good and evil will clash, fighting for the fate of the Universe. Some say good will triumph, others say not. In the time of Troy, three god-forged items were crafted. None of the gods who made these artifacts knew of the vital role each will play in that battle until history has molded them to its own needs. From Troy through Moses and to the Emperors of Rome, these items have been influenced by the sins and virtues of those who held them, and in return they have influenced their holders. From one hand to another they have been passed, through the generations. Only centuries after their making will their final purpose be known. No one truly knows when Armageddon is supposed to begin, but many believe it is right around the corner. They may very well be right. A time approaches where these artifacts will be sought; whether for good or evil remains to be seen. But to understand what these items are, it must be told how they came to be. Brought from Jerusalem to Samaria, the Cup is guarded by the last Daughter of Arnavon. But she has troubles of her own to worry about.

Teología en movimiento

Teología en movimiento

Autor: Arianne Van Andel

Returning to the Norse-inspired realm of Baern, the second book in the thrilling Renshai saga continues the tale of three warriors brothers.... As the survivors limp homeward, Tae Kahn—Subikahn’s father—fears that a far larger and fiercer wave of enemy soldiers is headed toward them. One Kjempemagiska and an army of their man-sized servants nearly defeated the entire Continent. This time, Tae is certain the ranks will include hundreds of these strong, magical, island-dwelling giants. The only hope for the peoples of the Continent is to regather their war-weary troops and convince the few magical beings of their own world to assist them. It becomes a race against time as Tae, his friends, and his family struggle to convince the Continental generals of the danger; attempt to turn reluctant, antagonistic mages and elves into allies; spy on the giant Kjempemagiska sorcerors; and seek some means to defeat an enemy powerful beyond contemplation.

Shakespeare

Shakespeare

Autor: Harold Bloom

The Talisman of Wrath

Autor: S. P. Muir

Número de Páginas: 363

A god will wage war on a king in S. P. Muir's epic fantasy debut, The Talisman of Wrath. At the world's founding, four chaotic forces were unleashed. Once imprisoned in four stones, three of them were hidden, but the fourth - a crystal star - was gifted to the incorruptible Arlien race as proof of their right to rule. But when the last Arlien king loses the crystal, he surrenders his crown in shame and leads the remnants of his people into hidden exile. Hundreds of years later, an evil god finds the crystal star and sets out to conquer the world. Only another of the four stones - the Talisman of Wrath - can possibly stop him. Set into a wondrous sword, this fabulous diamond-like gem contains an unbridled fury that only the true king can unleash; but who and where is he? And can even the Talisman of Wrath defeat an immortal and omnipotent god? The saga of the Twins of Arl is an exciting and epic series that harks back to the very origins of the fantasy genre.

The Flames of Wrath

The Flames of Wrath

Autor: Ronald Wilson

Número de Páginas: 208

Nowhere on the face of the earth is more fitted, than the evocative, mountain-thirlled trench of the valley of Glencoe, to witness the deeds it has seen. A placeof awesome grandeur, deep sadness, and soaring joy; said to have been hewen from the earth with one mighty slash of the Devil's tail. Zealots and bigots walked the land. Religious strife rent the Kingdom. This, the Establishment countered with harsh new laws and armed force. Bloody Claverhouse started out on his military career, rising through the ranks of the army like a shooting star. On the river of time the aspirations, ambitions and needs of two men collided; the new King William III, and the other, one of the foremost legal brains in Scotland and also its most powerful politician. On the loom of Fate King William and the Master of Stair spun their web. To both was the prime need of the pacification of the turbulent Highlands, which were peopled by warriors, whose only allegiance was to their Clan Chief. How best to achieve this end? By bribery? By force of arms? By the subtle manipulation of human weaknesses? Each Clan was fiercely autonomous; the very core of its being. It was self contained by differences of race,...
