En este libro, yo, Rosa, te llevo a través de mi vida, desde la niñez hasta la actualidad. Recuerdo personas, abusos y buenos momentos. In this book, I, Rosa, take you through my life, from childhood to the present. I recall times of struggle, abuse, and good memories. This book began as a journal, and because I wrote thoughts down as they came to me, not all parts are in sequential order. Names of people have been changed, but the story remains the same. My hope is that my story will touch someone’s heart and bring attention to issues of child, domestic, and animal abuse. This Was Our Childhood

Border of a Dream

Border of a Dream

Autor: Antonio Machado

Número de Páginas: 360

Antonio Machado (1875–1939) is Spain’s master poet, the explorer of dream and landscape, and of consciousness below language. Widely regarded as the greatest twentieth century poet who wrote in Spanish, Machado—like his contemporary Rilke—is intensely introspective and meditative. In this collection, the unparalleled translator Willis Barnstone, returns to the poet with whom he first started his distinguished career, offering a new bilingual edition which provides a sweeping assessment of Machado’s work. In addition, Border of a Dream includes a reminiscence by Nobel Laureate Juan Ramón Jiménez and a foreword by John Dos Passos. from "Proverbs and Songs" Absolute faith. We neither are nor will be. Our whole life is borrowed We brought nothing. With nothing we leave. * You say nothing is created? Don’t worry. With clay of the earth make a cup so your brother can drink. Born near Seville, Spain, Antonio Machado turned to a career in writing and translating in order to help support his family after the death of his father in 1893. His growing reputation as a poet led to teaching posts in various cities in Spain and, eventually, he returned to finish his degree from the...

Fiscal capitalism and the dismantling of citizenship in Puno, Peru

Fiscal capitalism and the dismantling of citizenship in Puno, Peru

Autor: Hunefeldt, Christine

Número de Páginas: 368

This excellent history of Peru proposes and proves an entirely new thesis on its nineteenth century: the changes in its economy that might have led to a better future were undone by taxes and other demands at the national, provincial and local levels. The failure of Peru owes a good deal to wartime taxes and local tax farming of the countryside. Professor Christine Hunefeldt does for the mundane issue of taxation what she has already done for Peruvian slavery and women’s rights; she writes a new history based on the evolution of a tax structure that changed for the worse over time. This is the work of a first-rate, mature scholar at the height of her powers. The book should sit right beside Nils Jacobsen, Brooke Larson, and Alberto Flores Galindo. Like other recent historians, Hunefeldt rejects the view that the nineteenth century was largely a continuation of Peru’s colonial period. She emphasizes the disruptions of independence which involved international battles as well as numerous regional and intraregional fights. Archive stories, beautifully told, flesh out the reality in every chapter. Men were conscripted into armies and their families left to starve without them....
