El presente trabajo analiza los datos de España en PISA 2015 con los objetivos de identificar los factores que más se relacionan con la competencia científica y describir el perfil de los estudiantes con mayor y menor desempeño en la prueba de ciencias en función de las variables de contexto. Para ello se ha utilizado una técnica multivariada de clasificación basada en árboles de decisión con el algoritmo CART (Classification and Regression Trees).Tras el estudio descriptivo-exploratorio realizado, se presenta la selección y jerarquía de las características contextuales del estudiante que más se relacionan con su nivel competencial en ciencias. El grado al que asiste el estudiante, junto con sus expectativas académicas y la repetición de curso, son las variables que, de forma global, mejor predicen el rendimiento en ciencias de los estudiantes españoles de 15 años.
