Il y a un avant Blue Monday et un après. C'est sur le label indépendant Factory, que le maxi est publié. L'histoire raconte (et c'est vrai !) que le graphiste, Peter Saville, a désiré une fabrication spéciale pour ce disque, qui représente la modernité en illustrant un floppy disc, avec des découpages dans le carton de la pochette... Lol Tolhurst, de son vrai nom, Laurence Tolhurst, est un musicen né le 3 février 1959 à Horley dans le Surrey. Il fut batteur du groupe The Cure de 1976 à 1982 avant d'en devenir le claviériste jusqu'à son éviction, en raison de ses diverses addictions, par Robert Smith en 1989. Il rejoue ponctuellement avec le groupe pour des rétrospectives.
