The Gift That changed our lives

The Gift That changed our lives

Autor: Rocío Martín Díez

When you’re told that your child has brain damage, the world falls apart around you. No matter what happens to you, this is a turning point in your life, where you have to take decisions. For me, it was the moment when I decided, without knowing that I had, to start a new life; an awakening, a road with no return. Our children with brain injury come to teach us many things; it’s no coincidence that they have chosen us. Felipón has been, and is, a gift, I’m not speaking out of faith or through false hope, but rather from the experience of a woman who has discovered how loving herself can make her son improve day by day. There’s a fine, imperceptible thread between a mother and her children; a thread that only she recognises, but in order to recognise it, we must be there, in the present, and listen to ourselves. This is the story of how I’ve lived since we were told that Felipón had six very serious injuries in his brain, when I was twenty weeks pregnant. I’d have given a great deal to find a book where someone told me where to start... I do hope this book will help you to understand, as I have done, that your son is coming to achieve much more than you can possibly...

qué estoy haciendo aquí? y otros poemas hablados

qué estoy haciendo aquí? y otros poemas hablados

Autor: David Antin

Consequences of Living an Ungovernable Life

Consequences of Living an Ungovernable Life

Autor: Macario Morales

Número de Páginas: 85

I woke up one day, my body in pain because of all the punches and kicks I had received, my lips full of stitches, my eyes swollen and with black circles from all the hits. Then I saw myself in the mirror, "This cannot be!" I told myself. I wondered why I needed to be in such conditions. Then I started to reconsider and look back at my past, and asked myself what I had gotten from that character I had and realized it had brought me nothing good. Furthermore, I wasted too many years of my life and that, precisely, is what I would like you to avoid. You've spent several years of suffering because you did not know how to live, just like I threw away all those years. I already lived that, and it is definitely not nice to live an ungovernable life. Praised be to God, for I have changed, and I am entirely different. If I could change my life, you can do it too. We are all children of a loving God. I sought an opportunity, and I got it. It came with a smile and told me, "I am here, right by your side. Let's move forward because life is a battle."

Me llamo Jaycee Lee Dugard. No me veo como una víctima. Sobreviví. Una vida robada es mi historia, en mis propias palabras, de mi propia manera, tal y como la recuerdo. La piña es un símbolo que representa la semilla de un comienzo nuevo para mí. The Collected Works of St. Teresa of Avila, vol 2

Autor: Teresa Of Avila

Número de Páginas: 504

This volume contains two of Teresa's most popular works: The Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle. Shortly after writing The Book of Her Life for her confessor, St. Teresa wrote The Way of Perfection at the request of her nuns who were eager to learn about prayer and contemplation. Throughout this work she teaches her nuns about prayer and also teaches us. Toward the end of her life, after she had experienced both the spiritual betrothal and spiritual marriage, Teresa wrote The Interior Castle, her own panoramic view of her relationship with God, from the lowest stages to the highest. Teresa here demonstrates her great gift for writing about that relationship and attracting us to explore the possibility of pursuing it. Along with these two classics, Volume Two also includes one of Teresa's minor works, her Meditations on the Song of Songs. Nothing provided

Papalotero

Papalotero

Autor: Martin Boyd

Teresa Jones’s dreams of flying contrast sharply with her dreary, earthbound life working as a filing-clerk in a CD store, and suffering the constant nagging of her academic parents, who are outraged at her stubborn refusal to go to college. Her best friend – the popular, successful and apparently happy college freshman Elena Kravchuk – has the perfect prescription for Teresa’s depression: she needs to get laid. When the two girls meet Miguel Angel Ramirez, a misfit Mexican immigrant who builds and flies kites for a living, Elena goes to work as match-maker to bring him together for a casual fling with her socially awkward, chronically depressed best friend. But rather than providing a one night stand, this papalotero will transform the lives of both girls in ways that neither one bargained for: Elena will confront the truth that her life is not as perfect as she so desperately wants people to believe it is, while Teresa will be challenged to give up her low self-esteem and Life Sucks t-shirts, and discover that the happiness she thinks is out of her reach might actually be just one small leap of faith away.

Apocalypse 2021

I was in the editorial offices of a regional newspaper, completely alone as it was late in the evening, anad as soon as I put the phone down, I raced out to the streest, without even switching my computer off. There were still a few days to go before her remarkable life story would be splashed across the pages of our delightful local paper, but that was far too long to wait without sharing that astonishing experience.

During Nights/Noches

During Nights/Noches

Autor: Nela Rio

Número de Páginas: 92

This selection of my translations of twenty-nine poems and six short stories from Nela Rio's voluminous production offers a broad spectrum of her writing from the 1980s to 2002. Because the images cast on Rio's canvas vary in their degrees of darkness and their multiple shades of light and colour, the placement of the chosen texts is not chronological but an off-centre presentation of experiences and emotions in a counterpoint of tension. Throughout the whole Rio weaves a mystical thread that affirms life as a celebration. Her gifts of metaphorical lyricism bestow an aura of mystery and enchantment, so that her fiction also displays characteristics of poetry and myth, as an example "The Space of Light," the short story that provides the title and concludes the selections. Short stories such as "Oblivion Travels in a Black Car," and "Maria de la Victoria," are allegoric poetic prose. Rio's lyrical skills are fully demonstrated in "The Wisteria Garden," where the language of flowers in the paintings of the artist speak of domestic violence, and in "Marietta, at the Angelus," in which the language of music translates desire. "Lucrecia" is a paradoxical celebration of solidarity and...

INFIDELITY: A PAINFUL ROAD TO LONELINESS

Autor: Enrique Martinez

I became a father at fifteen. At my young age, I wanted to play at being an adult, and the responsibilities were coming day by day in my new chapter as a father. During my boy's first birthday, I had the opportunity, over dinner at my house, to tell my mother that I would soon marry Elizabeth. She took my hand and said, "You two are too young to take such a huge step. Life is just beginning for both of you, and you still have a very long way to go and meet many more people." Regardless of her words that night, my decision to continue with the civil wedding remained solid, and a couple of months later I married Elizabeth, thinking at that moment that she was the woman with whom I would share the rest of my life. Without knowing that after three years, my mother's words would resonate in my head when the most important person in my life appeared in my world. It would really be incredible if we had a crystal ball to see our future and thus make better decisions. Believing in destiny was not important to me. I thought that life was what we were building day by day with our actions. But destiny would arrive very soon, planning step-by-step the exact moment when he would knock on the...
